Red Hook Bait & Tackle • Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY • Signed Art Print by John Tebeau
$50.00
Red Hook Bait & Tackle — gone but not forgotten. A legendary Brooklyn dive. A place where the beers were cold, the vibe was real, and the décor leaned heavily toward taxidermy and fishing gear (as it should).
If you knew Red Hook before it got too discovered, you probably knew Red Hook Bait & Tackle. Equal parts bar, clubhouse, and local hang, it had that rare, unforced authenticity — the kind you can’t fake and can’t franchise.
Originally a fisherman’s club and bait shop, the space was transformed into a bar in 2004 — and rather than clean it up, the owners leaned all the way in. They kept the name, the sign, and the spirit, filling the place with fishing gear, oddities, and a come-as-you-are energy that made it one of the most beloved dives in Brooklyn.
It wasn’t easy to get to. That was part of the point.
This illustration is my tribute to that perfect storm of grit, humor, and neighborhood soul — the kind of place that feels like it grew there naturally, shaped by salt air, stories, and long nights.
Perfect for:
Brooklyn locals & expats
Red Hook regulars
Dive bar purists
Waterfront wanderers
Nostalgia collectors
Anyone who misses the old New York just a little bit
About Red Hook Bait & Tackle
Opened as a bar in 2004 inside a former bait shop and fisherman’s club, Red Hook Bait & Tackle quickly became a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s offbeat social life. Known for its unpretentious vibe, eclectic décor, and live music, it drew a mix of locals, artists, and adventurous drinkers willing to make the trek. It closed in 2018 — another beloved New York institution lost to time, but not to memory.
