Ear Inn – West Village NYC | Signed Art Print by John Tebeau
$90.00
Since 1817. Crooked floors. Cold beer. Real New York.
Tucked at the edge of the West Village, Ear Inn is one of the oldest continuously operating bars in New York City — and one of its best.
The building dates to the early 1800s, back when this stretch of Manhattan hugged the Hudson River. Sailors, longshoremen, writers, and regulars have all passed through its famously uneven floors and low ceilings. For years it was known as The Green Door, before becoming the Ear Inn in 1977 — a clever workaround to landmark signage rules, with the neon “BAR” sign simply tweaked to read “EAR,” inspired by the Ear Magazine offices upstairs.
It’s the kind of place New York doesn’t make anymore.
I drew this piece to capture that feeling — the slant of the building, the glow of the sign, the sense that if these walls could talk, they’d probably order another round first.
Featured in my book Bars, Taverns and Dives New Yorkers Love, this print is for people who love authentic New York, historic bars, and places with stories baked into the floorboards.
