Oh, Grand Army — what a gem. This downtown Brooklyn bar at the corner of State & Hoyt has always felt like a cool clubhouse and a home base all at once. The cocktails are inventive and bold, the staff are pros, and there’s something magical about sitting in that sunlit room.

Named Imbibe Magazine’s “Cocktail Bar of the Year”, Grand Army isn’t just another bar — it’s a craft-driven local institution.

I drew this place because I love it — and because it deserves its fame, in print form! You’ll also see this illustration featured in my book Bars, Taverns and Dives New Yorkers Love.

Why You’ll Love This Print

  • A Piece of Brooklyn History & Design
Grand Army’s founders — including bartender Damon Boelte — aimed to create something neighborhood-driven and beautifully curated. The space features vintage charm, a custom oyster bar, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace.

  • Bold, Ever-Changing Cocktail Themes
The bar keeps it fresh: previous menus have riffed on the MTA, country music (hello, Grand Ole Army), Mean Girls, even Nicolas Cage.

  • Seafood-Forward Menu
More than cocktails — Grand Army’s food program leans into oysters, small seasonal plates, and elegant, light fare. Urbanologie
